Ghinn & Co

Founded in 1964 by Roger Ghinn, Ghinn & Co has over six decades of experience delivering high-quality building and decorating services to residential properties across London and Surrey.

During the late 1980s, Roger’s son, Gaius Ghinn, joined the business, bringing with him hands-on experience as a trained carpenter/joiner. His background working with various contractors in Surrey and West Sussex, combined with Roger’s leadership, helped evolve the company’s focus.

Throughout the 1990s, the partnership expanded steadily, specialising in refurbishment projects of Listed and Period properties. A retained workforce was developed during this time, enabling Ghinn & Co to deliver work to exacting standards with consistent quality.

Roger I Ghinn & Co Ltd (trading as Ghinn & Co) was incorporated in 1997 and has since grown into a highly respected building company known for its professional project management and commitment to craftsmanship.

While Ghinn & Co is particularly recognised for its expertise in the restoration of historic buildings—including the use of traditional methods such as oak timber framing, stone, flint, and brickwork with hydraulic lime mortars—we also undertake new-build and contemporary residential projects. In addition, a dedicated Small Works Team manages minor building and maintenance works throughout Surrey and West Sussex.

For over 20 years, our operations have been based in the beautiful Surrey Hills, from where we manage all projects—regardless of size—with the same rigorous attention to detail. Our team of highly skilled, directly employed tradespeople is overseen by experienced Contracts Managers who visit every project daily. This ensures not only exceptional workmanship but also open, consistent communication with clients throughout every stage of the build.

Our work is further supported by a professional, efficient back-office team. At Ghinn & Co client care and personal service remain central to our ethos.

In 2024, Ghinn & Co was honoured to receive the Sussex Heritage Trust Award for the total renovation of a Grade II Listed property in West Sussex—recognition of the pride and quality we bring to every project.

Now in our 61st year, Ghinn & Co is proud to be a third-generation family business. We continue to offer a truly personal and professional building service, driven by passion, craftsmanship, and a committed, directly employed workforce—all overseen by a motivated and experienced management team.
